What's a Blivit?
Whimsical vulgar exuberant. A made up word, which, when used, is supposed to lead to the question, "What's a blivit?" and the answer, assertedly a howler, is, "It's five pounds of shit in a three pound bag." [I have never seen this form in print. It was common in street talk by 1932 (and how much earlier?). As a metaphoric element: shit for "trouble" (as in up shit creek; that's when the shit hit the fan; well, I'll be dipped in shit!); the 5:3 ratio to express overabundance. to get hit with a blivit = to be up shit creek and overboard.]
